Nelstar Productions began in 1980, started by two individuals who worked hands-on for several years with world class live events producer “Mr. Entertainment” The Original Tommy Trojan, Tommy Walker. A supreme education in Theatrical Design from California Polytechnic University Pomona was soft in comparison to Run & Gun, Fast Pace, Seat of your Pants, Blood Racing, Heart Pounding, and One Chance to Get it Right, Live Events Production! The adrenaline rush of “Rapid Fire” show biz became contagious, so they decided to start a Special Events Entertainment Company of their own. With opening celebrations for the LA Dodgers, halftime shows for the LA Rams, and World Championship ceremonies for the LA Lakers, Nelstar Productions quickly grew into artistic production specialists by delivering excitement and capturing the spectacle of world-class professional sporting events. When the Olympics hit Los Angeles in 1984 they were ready. Nelstar Productions had the distinctive honor of producing Olympic Baseball’s Inaugural Celebration, providing special entertainment for Modern Pentathlon and partnering in the historic Opening Ceremonies seen throughout the world. In 1987 the late Pope John Paul II graced Los Angeles, for The Papal Pre-Liturgy celebration, Nelstar Productions was honored to provide creative services and logistical coordination for this historic event. Wherever grand, live events take place television cameras seem to follow. By now they had become quite versed in teaming with TV directors and producers to coordinate and capture the very best angles, highlights and effects of live action for the at home TV audience. In 1988, a major International television event was taking place in Seoul Korea and Nelstar Productions was invited to participate. 300,000 people filled Olympic stadium for the first ever Pre-Olympic concert. Bob Hope, Brooke Shields, Julio Iglecias, Gloria Estefan and countless other first-class celebrity entertainers came together to perform “United We Stand”, for Seoul and the world. Grand moving scenery, staggering technical demands, and full orchestral requirements, the job description grew with every passing hour. Working in a foreign country was difficult and challenging, however, that experience continues to benefit their productions to this day. Imagine the surprise when arriving on-site three weeks prior to broadcast and discovering the entire stage and performance presentation area had yet to be constructed! Attention to detail proved indispensable in adding total stage arena construction supervision to the growing list of responsibilities. Coordinating intricate moving scenery, special effects, complex talent performances and last-minute carpentry with a live-to-tape thirteen-camera broadcast, Nelstar Productions was now an international success with a perfect record for Live Special Event Telecasting. Lights! Camera! Action! Television Specials, Made for TV Movies, Weekly Series, Celebrity Showcases, Holiday Variety Shows and Awards Presentations slowly began to comprise the bulk of operations. Nelstar Productions’ wide variety of services continues to grow, change, challenge and gratify. The 24 hour set, the hectic sound stage and even the uncontrollable location shoots often seem tame in comparison to hundreds of cast members and hundreds of thousands of audience members, yet they tend to savor the controlled chaos and take great pride in contributing to entertaining families in the comfort of their homes. Team Work, Creativity, Dedication and attention to detail are the common threads that run through each and every aspect of any production live or taped, large or small. Nelstar Productions will continue to successfully meet all new challenges in any and all entertainment environments.
